1st Grade Music

Hi!  Our 1st Grade classes are having fun with Halloween music for the next few weeks.  Last week, we learned a song called "Halloween".  This week we are adding an accompaniment using classroom instruments.  The kids already know how to read simple rhythms using quarter notes, quarter rests, and half notes.  The rhythms we are playing on our instruments along with the song are rhythms using these notes/rests.  They are doing great so far!  I have attached some pictures.  Hope you enjoy it!  Ask your 1st grader to sing "Halloween" for you!

Recorder Dojo

Happy Tuesday afternoon!
I told the kids about the Recorder Dojo today.  This is a place where they can play their recorder songs with an accompaniment.  It is a streaming audio.  There are also some other fun things there they can do.
This is how you get there...go to the Music K8 website - http://www.musick8.com/ (there's also a link on my page) and go about halfway down on the right.  Click on Recorder Dojo, and it will take you to a sign in page.  The username is karate, and the password is rubric.  On the next page, go to "streaming audio" at the bottom of the page, and then they can click on the song they want to play with.  There is a choice of slow tempo or fast tempo to practice with.
Remember, kids....count beats, practice fingering while saying the notes, then attempt to play through the song.
Slow, warm air, NOT fast cool air - and cover your holes tightly!  Leaks cause squeaks!!
Good luck and remember, practice, practice, practice!!

Parents - please help your child if you can, and please help them to remember their recorders!! Their classes get extra points for everyone having their recorders on music day!!

CHOIR starts TODAY!!!!

I am so excited! We are having our first after school choir practice today.  The kids will get two new Christmas songs, and we are going to have a great time!  If you noticed, we are not "Rhythm Jeans" anymore...we are now the Tatum Primary School Choir.  I am sending home a choir information sheet, and attached on the back is a Choir t-shirt order form.  EVERYONE needs a t-shirt, because we will be wearing it to perform in.  Parents and siblings are invited to order a choir t-shirt, also, if you would like to!  They are going to be Kelly green, and there is a sample of the wording on the order form. They are $10 each, regardless of size!
We are going to have so much fun singing together this year.  We always do!  I hope that Choir provides a positive, inviting, exciting, and joyful experience for your children as we learn and sing together!!!

Recorders

The 3rd graders here at Tatum Primary will be playing recorders for the next 9 weeks.  We will also use them off and on during the year to enhance instruction.  The order has come in, and they will be recieving their recorders this week during their music class.  We will also learn to play 3 notes, B, A, and G.
If your 3rd grader has not brought $3 to pay for their recorder, please have them bring it ASAP so we can all be together as we begin our unit.
The method we are using is called Recorder Karate, and the students will be earning "belts" as they play off the music in their folder.  We will track their progress on a bulletin board in my room.  (I will put up a picture soon!)
Please encourage your child to practice at home, and remind them to bring their recorders on their music day!
I added some pictures of our Recorder Karate bulletin boards.  The students will get to move their names to the color belt that they have tested off on, and get that color of string on their recorder.
Good Luck kids!!
Thank you!
